While I’ve had every intention of writing various blog articles this week about news items I’ve read in relation to things such as social media, Google’s flights search, the Facebook and Skype hook-up, and all manner of other things, the fact is that life just moves too quickly! As another Friday skips by it’s time to look to the weekend for some much needed relaxation, and look back at the week that was.

So what have we learned this week? Certainly the integration of Skype video with Facebook could be a very interesting addition to its already domineering influence over the web, and it seems every time Google takes a step forward, Facebook takes a giant leap. The world and the web is going social, which leaves Google in a position they’ve never experienced before – that of the underdog.

Facebook has such an established presence in social media that it is light years ahead of Google’s new “+” features, which are essentially asking us to yet again pull together all of our contacts, interests and affiliations into yet another organised group. We’ve already done all that, it’s called Facebook! With Facebook’s ‘Like’ button already permeating much of the web, Google may get ‘cross’ (pun intended) that their little plus sign gets trounced by the ‘likers’.

Which brings me back nicely to where I started, despite the fact it’s nice to read an interesting article whenever you can, Twitter just has that edge over other communication platforms by being quick, concise and endlessly engaging. So if you happen to be wondering what I’m thinking. Find me on Twitter, I’m the one wearing a copywriter’s hat and smoking a social media cigar.
